Jamal Musiala Gives Health Update After Bayern Munich Incidents
Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has provided a health update after two recent on-field incidents, revealing a diagnosis of a temporary neurological dysfunction.
The Germany international collapsed during Bayern’s friendly against RB Leipzig on Saturday and was later named in Vincent Kompany’s squad for the final pre-season match against Heidenheim on Tuesday. However, he was forced off again shortly after coming on as a second-half substitute, leaving the pitch with Bayern’s medical staff.
Musiala reveals neurological dysfunction
Musiala addressed the situation on Instagram, saying he is doing well and thanking fans for their support. He explained that he has been diagnosed with brief, temporary absences linked to a neurological dysfunction, which he believes caused the episodes in both recent matches.
“I understand that many of you are worried. Today, I’d like to put your minds at ease and explain the situation a little,” he said, adding that he is currently receiving treatment and managing the condition in daily life.
Musiala remains optimistic about recovery
The 23-year-old said he continues to receive strong support from Bayern Munich and those close to him, and stressed that there is no additional health risk beyond his diagnosis.
After consulting specialists, Musiala chose to continue playing, saying football is an important part of his recovery and routine. “I have taken responsibility for that decision. Overall, I have a very good feeling and I’m on the right track,” he said.

He also expressed his ambition to keep competing for trophies with Bayern: “What helps me most on this journey is continuing to chase victories and titles with my team, with your fantastic support.”
Musiala asks for privacy
While thanking fans for their concern, Musiala asked for privacy regarding his condition. He said details will remain within his family, Bayern Munich, and his medical team.
“I hope this helps you understand me a little better,” he said. “At the same time, I ask for your understanding that I would like to continue keeping this matter within the circle of my closest confidants, the club and the experts.”
When will Musiala play for Bayern again?
Bayern Munich face Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on Saturday, August 22, before opening their Bundesliga season at home against VfB Stuttgart on Friday, August 28.
While Musiala’s update offers reassurance, his return will depend on medical assessments and his recovery progress. For now, he remains focused and optimistic about continuing his career.
