Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has publicly defended Judy Austin’s Ex-Husband, Emmanuel Obasi, after his emotional interview on the Honest Bunch podcast sparked mixed reactions across social media.
Obasi recently became a topic of discussion after breaking down in tears while recounting his experiences and the difficulties he claims to have faced over the years, particularly concerning access to his children from his previous marriage to actress Judy Austin.
While some social media users criticised him for becoming emotional during the interview, Rita Edochie has strongly rejected such views.
Rita Edochie Says Tears Do Not Define a Man’s Strength
In a lengthy statement shared on her Instagram page, Rita Edochie maintained that Obasi’s emotional moment should not be interpreted as a sign of weakness.
According to the veteran actress, many people fail to understand the emotional burden carried by individuals who have endured years of frustration and disappointment.
“Just because Mr Obasi cried during the podcast does not make him less of a man. He cried because he was emotional due to the intimidation melted on him,” she stated.
She further stressed that tears often reflect deep emotional wounds rather than a lack of courage.
“Those calling Mr Obasi a weakling because he became emotional during that podcast clearly do not understand what pain can do to a human being. Tears are not a sign of weakness. Sometimes they are the language of a wounded soul that has carried burdens for far too long.”
Rita Edochie also described Emmanuel Obasi as a peaceful and reserved individual who rarely seeks attention or controversy.
“The Mr Obasi I have known for years is a very calm, peaceful, quiet, and collected man. He hardly talks and hardly troubles anyone,” she added.
Judy Austin’s Ex-Husband Allegedly Faced Years of Frustration
Speaking further on the matter, Rita Edochie clarified that Obasi’s emotional reaction had nothing to do with being childless or lacking support in his current family life.
She revealed that he has three sons with his present wife and that his pain stems from being separated from the children from his former marriage.
“Mr Obasi is not crying because he is stranded or because he does not have other children. The pain he is expressing has everything to do with the emotional torture, intimidation and frustration he has endured for years regarding the children he had in his previous marriage,” she explained.
The actress also alleged that Emmanuel Obasi made several attempts to see his children, including repeated trips to Enugu, only to face disappointment.
“How many times would a man be given consent to come and see his children in Enugu only for the phone to be switched off the moment he arrives in town? How many times would a father spend his time, money, and energy making a trip only to be ignored, frustrated and sent back heartbroken?” she questioned.
Rita Edochie further addressed Obasi’s recent activity on social media, noting that his willingness to speak publicly is the result of prolonged emotional pressure rather than a desire for attention.
“If you noticed any change in him on social media, it is not because he suddenly became loud or troublesome. It is because marital frustration pushed him into a corner where he felt the need to express himself.
Sometimes people speak out not because they enjoy drama, but because they are desperately searching for relief.”

Her remarks have since generated fresh conversations online, with many social media users sharing differing opinions about the emotional interview and the ongoing family issues involving Judy Austin’s Ex-Husband.
As discussions continue, the actress remains firm in her position that Emmanuel Obasi deserves understanding rather than criticism for openly expressing his pain.
