Nigerian music executive Ubi Franklin opens up on failed marriage to actress Lilian Esoro, sharing the emotional struggles that followed their relationship and how the painful experience pushed him into depression.
Speaking in a video shared on his Instagram page, Franklin revealed that he attempted to take his own life several times before eventually finding healing.
According to Ubi Franklin, his relationship with Lilian Esoro moved very quickly after they first met in January 2015.
He disclosed that he proposed to the actress just a few months later and organized an engagement dinner at the Red Restaurant in Eko Hotel, inviting close friends and notable personalities to celebrate with them.
However, the event did not go as planned.
“On the 4th of January 2015, that’s when I met my now ex-wife. I engaged her on the 19th of March 2015. After I engaged her, I set up a nice dinner at the Red Restaurant of the Eko Hotel. I invited all my friends, big boys, everybody. She didn’t turn up. She had dropped the ring and left,” he recalled.
Franklin admitted that the incident left him deeply embarrassed because news of the failed engagement quickly spread across social media.
“I was so embarrassed because it was a big thing on social media. Everybody was talking about it. Have you ever cried to a point where you cannot cry again? That’s where I was,” he said.
Lilian Esoro reportedly returned after having cold feet
Despite the setback, Ubi Franklin said Lilian later came back and explained that she had developed cold feet before the engagement ceremony.
He revealed that they continued seeing each other and even travelled together afterward. According to him, another emotional setback occurred when she allegedly left the engagement ring behind once again after attending AY Live.
Months later, the couple reconciled and eventually proceeded with their wedding.
Although they got married, the union did not last, and both eventually went their separate ways after welcoming a son together.
