Plateau Attack: Over 20 Killed, Several Injured in Mangu
More than 20 people have been killed and several others injured after gunmen reportedly attacked Binper community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack occurred between Monday night and the early hours of Tuesday, August 18, 2026, according to residents.
An eyewitness, Daniel Musa, said the attackers were heavily armed and moved from house to house during the incident.
He alleged that the gunmen forced their way into homes and attacked residents who were asleep.
“Our village came under attack last night and in the early hours of today, Tuesday, by heavily armed persons,” Musa said.
He added that more than 20 deaths had been confirmed by Tuesday morning, while several people sustained serious injuries.
Musa also said some residents remained missing after the attack.
Another resident, John Dalyop, described the situation as terrible and called for an immediate security response.
He urged the new Commissioner of Police in Plateau State to take action against those responsible for the attack.
Dalyop also appealed to the state and Federal Governments to strengthen security around vulnerable communities in Mangu and other parts of Plateau State.

According to him, injured victims had been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Community leaders and residents were also working to determine the whereabouts of those still missing.
Security operatives deployed to community
Dalyop said security operatives were reportedly deployed to Binper on Tuesday morning to restore calm and prevent further attacks.
The deployment came as residents called for stronger protection of communities considered vulnerable to attacks.
Efforts to obtain an official reaction from security agencies before the report was filed were unsuccessful.
The reported attack adds to ongoing security concerns in parts of Plateau State, where communities have faced deadly violence and displacement in recent years.
