83 Nigerians Return to Nigeria from South Africa
Eighty-three Nigerians have returned home from South Africa following a repatriation exercise supported by private individuals.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the development in a statement issued on Wednesday night. It said the returnees arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on a South African Airways flight from Johannesburg.
Two officials from the Consulate-General of Nigeria in Johannesburg accompanied the Nigerians during the journey.
According to the ministry, private individuals provided the funds to purchase flight tickets for the returnees. Their support helped facilitate the safe return of the 83 Nigerians to the country.
The returnees were received on behalf of the Federal Government by Ambassador Haruna Ali-Gombe, Director of the African Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

After their arrival, the 83 Nigerians were handed over to relevant government agencies. They will undergo documentation and profiling before being reunited with their families.
Federal Government reaffirms commitment to Nigerians abroad
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the welfare and safe return of Nigerians living abroad.
The ministry also thanked the Nigerian Mission in South Africa, private sponsors and other agencies that supported the repatriation and reintegration process.
The latest development comes as government agencies continue to work with relevant partners to assist Nigerians returning home from other countries.
