Nigerian singer Rudeboy, whose real name is Paul Okoye, has revealed that pursuing a solo career after the split of P-Square was less stressful because he was already handling much of the group’s music.
The singer made this known during an interview with Luna Lifestyle TV on YouTube, where he explained that his responsibilities as a producer, songwriter and vocalist made the transition to a solo career easier.
Rudeboy Explains Why Solo Career Was Easier
Asked whether going solo was more difficult or easier after years in P-Square, Rudeboy simply replied, “Less stressful.”
He explained that he had already been responsible for much of the group’s creative work.
“With due respect, it was the same me,” he said. “I was the producer, the writer, the singer. So moving out of the group, it’s still the same thing.”
Although he acknowledged that every member contributed to the group, Rudeboy maintained that he had significant creative control over the music.

The singer also insisted that P-Square would remain an important part of Nigerian music history. He pointed to the continued popularity of the duo’s albums, particularly Get Squared and Game Over, as evidence of their lasting influence.

A Look at P-Square’s Split and Rudeboy’s Solo Career
The brothers first separated in 2017 following disagreements involving management and other issues. They reunited years later, but their partnership broke down again in 2024, when Paul Okoye confirmed that the group had split and that he was focusing on his solo career.
Peter Okoye has also continued releasing music as Mr P.
In September 2024, Rudeboy reportedly expressed frustration over what he described as an imbalance in work and recognition within the group, saying he preferred to continue working independently.
He launched his solo career after the 2017 split and released his debut solo album, Rudykillus, in 2021.
