The Defence Headquarters has released a video of the rescue operation of Oyo pupils and teachers, offering details of the mission that led to the safe recovery of pupils and teachers abducted in Oyo State after spending more than 50 days in captivity.
The footage, shared on the Defence Headquarters’ official X account on Sunday, captures security operatives during the coordinated rescue mission that brought the victims back safely.
According to the military, the success of the operation was achieved through intelligence-driven efforts and close collaboration among different security agencies.
“Through effective inter-agency collaboration and intelligence-driven operations, the abducted victims in Oyo State were safely rescued. The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain steadfast in safeguarding lives and national security,” the Defence Headquarters stated.
Victims Regain Freedom After Weeks in Captivity
The pupils and teachers were abducted by armed men on May 15, 2026, in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. They remained in captivity for more than seven weeks before security operatives successfully rescued them last Friday.
The release of the video of the rescue operation of Oyo pupils and teachers provides further insight into the efforts made by security personnel during the mission.
Earlier, the Presidency confirmed that eight suspected kidnappers were arrested during the rescue exercise, while several other members of the criminal group were killed during the operation.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that the arrested suspects are currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), where investigations are ongoing.

Tinubu Commends Security Agencies
President Bola Tinubu also revealed that the Ansaru terrorist group was responsible for the abduction of the pupils and teachers.
Following the successful rescue, the President praised the security agencies for their professionalism, courage and discipline in carrying out the operation.
He expressed relief over the safe return of the victims and reiterated his administration’s determination to confront terrorism and other forms of violent crime across the country.
Tinubu maintained that Nigeria would continue strengthening its security efforts to protect lives and property, stressing that the country would not surrender to terrorist groups.
