WAEC Defends Credibility of 2026 WASSCE Results Amid Concerns
The West African Examinations Council has reaffirmed the credibility of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination results, dismissing concerns circulating online about the accuracy and reliability of the recently released results.
WAEC said candidates, parents, schools and members of the public should be cautious about relying on unverified information, particularly claims circulating on social media.
The examination body made its position known through a statement issued by its Public Affairs Department on Thursday, explaining that the 2026 WASSCE for School Candidates was conducted under established examination procedures and in accordance with relevant education policies.
WAEC explains how 2026 WASSCE results were processed
According to the council, the results were subjected to several quality-control procedures before being released to the public.
WAEC explained that candidates’ examination scripts pass through different stages of marking, moderation and auditing. It added that approved marking schemes and qualified subject specialists are used throughout the process to promote consistency and fairness.
The council maintained that these procedures are part of the established system it has used for many years to protect the credibility of its examinations.
WAEC also said the 2026 examination was organised in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education and followed its standard operational procedures.
Council reacts to concerns over WASSCE results
The clarification comes amid discussions on social media questioning aspects of the 2026 WASSCE results.
WAEC acknowledged that candidates and their families may feel anxious after the release of examination results, particularly where the outcome could determine admission into higher institutions or the next stage of a student’s education.

However, the council urged the public not to treat unconfirmed social media reports as authoritative information.
It encouraged candidates and parents who have genuine concerns about individual results to use its official channels rather than depending on online speculation.
Candidates can raise complaints through official channels
WAEC said it has procedures for candidates and other stakeholders who want clarification or wish to raise concerns about their examination results.
The council advised affected candidates to contact its offices across the country or use its verified online communication platforms for guidance on how to submit queries.
This, according to the examination body, would help ensure that complaints are properly investigated and that candidates receive information from an authoritative source.
WAEC promises to protect examination integrity
The council reiterated that maintaining the integrity of its assessment system remains a priority.
WAEC said its examination procedures are designed to protect candidates while ensuring that scores accurately reflect their performance.
The examination body therefore urged students, parents and schools to rely on verified information when discussing the 2026 WASSCE results.
It further appealed to stakeholders with specific complaints to follow the established query-resolution process instead of spreading unverified claims online.
The clarification is expected to reassure candidates awaiting further information about their results and encourage those with genuine concerns to seek assistance through official WAEC channels.
