Halima Abubakar abandons Islam and has publicly announced her conversion to Christianity, saying the life-changing decision followed what she described as a miraculous recovery from a mysterious illness that kept her out of the public eye for nearly nine years.
The Nollywood actress shared her testimony after making a gradual return to public life, revealing that her health challenges not only affected her physically but also transformed her spiritual journey.
Speaking about the difficult period, Abubakar said she came close to losing her life before experiencing what she believes was divine healing through prayers.
“I’m a brand new person now. I have given my life to Christ. I want to serve God because He has helped me. I almost died. They almost killed me.
This is not about movies; this is about restoration and testimony. Halima Abubakar is back, big and better,” she said.
How Her Recovery Changed Her Life
According to the actress, her recovery began after receiving prayers from Apostle Queen Belemzy of Queen Belemzy Ministries.
Abubakar admitted that during the early stages of their interaction, she was not receptive because of the emotional strain caused by her illness.
“I was somehow rude to her because of my mood then, but she still went ahead to pray with me over the phone. I later felt the impact of her prayers regarding my health, so I started searching for her number,” she explained.

She said the experience convinced her that God had given her another chance at life, prompting her to surrender her life to Christ.
On July 4, the actress publicly shared her testimony during the Holy Ghost Revival programme held at Merit House in Maitama, Abuja, where she narrated her years-long struggle with illness and her eventual recovery.
Years of Health Challenges and Public Controversies
Before announcing that Halima Abubakar abandons Islam, the actress had repeatedly spoken about the emotional, physical, and financial burden of her illness.
Earlier this year, she revealed that she had been asked to leave her apartment despite plans to renew her tenancy. Around the same period, she also appealed for financial assistance to undergo brain surgery as part of her medical treatment.
Her health struggles had previously drawn public attention after she admitted to using TikTok filters to conceal the changes in her appearance caused by the illness.
Apart from her health challenges, Abubakar also faced professional setbacks. In 2024, the Actors Guild of Nigeria suspended her over defamation allegations involving Apostle Johnson Suleman.

The suspension was later lifted during her prolonged illness, after which she issued a public apology to the cleric, expressing regret over the allegations she had made.
Following her announcement, fans, colleagues, and well-wishers flooded social media with congratulatory messages, celebrating what many described as a fresh beginning in her life.
Abubakar says she now intends to dedicate herself to sharing her testimony and spreading the Christian faith, describing her recovery as evidence of God’s intervention after years of pain and uncertainty.
