Late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo’s final words to Denrele have left many Nigerians emotional after the media personality shared a voice note he received from the actor shortly before his passing.
The touching message surfaced just hours after Alexx Ekubo was laid to rest on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at his family compound in Arochukwu, Abia State.
Family members, colleagues, and friends gathered to pay their final respects, while tributes continued to pour in across social media.
In the voice note, Alexx could be heard checking on Denrele’s well-being after seeing a social media post about him. Despite reportedly dealing with health challenges of his own, the actor focused on encouraging his friend.
“Rele, how are you? Good evening, hope well. I just saw something Tunde posted like 20 minutes ago about you. I know you hate sympathy so I’m just happy you’re okay now,” Alexx said.
He continued by offering prayers and support.
“I’m glad I reached out to be sure you’re fine. Your healing is permanent and God will continue to keep, bless and protect you. You bring so much light, you’re such an energy giver and an amazing individual.”
The actor also assured Denrele that he would always be available whenever needed.
“Please, if there’s anywhere I can be there for you, don’t hesitate to let me know. I love you my brother and I appreciate you deeply. God bless you.”

Denrele Opens Up on Pain of Losing Alexx Ekubo
Sharing the audio on Instagram, Denrele admitted that releasing the voice note was one of the hardest things he had done since learning about the actor’s death.
According to him, the most painful part was knowing that Alexx reached out to comfort others while quietly facing his own personal battles.
“This is the last voice note Alexx sent me from his sick bed. That’s the part I’m struggling with. While he was carrying battles I knew nothing about, he still found the strength to reach out and comfort me,” Denrele wrote.
The television personality also reflected on their friendship, which began during the Mr Nigeria pageant in 2010. He described Alexx as ambitious, kind-hearted, and unforgettable from the moment they met.
Denrele recalled working with the actor on a recent film project in Port Harcourt, noting that Alexx continued to spread positivity and laughter even when he appeared physically weak.
“Looking back now, that was his superpower. To the world, I was Denrele. To him, I was ‘Rele.’ On phone calls, I was always ‘NNE!’ Those private jokes and nicknames are what death steals. Not just the person, but the unique way they made you feel,” he said.
In his emotional tribute, Denrele thanked the actor for years of friendship, kindness, and unwavering support.
“Rest well, Alexx. Thank you for the kindness. Thank you for the laughter. Thank you for always checking on others, even when you needed someone to check on you.”
