The controversy surrounding the Chimamanda Adichie son’s death has intensified after the award-winning Nigerian writer publicly accused Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital of negligence and alleged efforts to obstruct a judicial inquiry into the incident.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie said she decided to release a letter she had earlier sent to the hospital’s board, insisting that remaining silent would amount to enabling wrongdoing.
In the statement shared via Instagram, she maintained that only a full and independent investigation could establish the truth about what happened to her son, Nkanu Nnamdi.
According to Adichie, Nkanu, one of twin boys born via surrogacy in 2024, died on January 7, 2026, after a brief illness.
She alleged that complications arose at Euracare Hospital following a referral from another facility, particularly during procedures involving sedation for an MRI scan.
Chimamanda Adichie son’s death has since become the subject of public debate as both sides present conflicting accounts.
Adichie further claimed that the hospital initially supported the idea of an inquest, citing “rumours of negligence,” but later began frustrating the process.
She alleged that Euracare has sought to stall proceedings and is even attempting to obtain a High Court order to halt the public judicial inquiry.
Explaining the purpose of an inquest, she wrote that it is “a public judicial inquiry designed to establish the circumstances surrounding a death. It is not a trial.
It is not a claim for damages. It is simply a search for the truth.” Her remarks were aimed at reinforcing her call for transparency in the Chimamanda Adichie son’s death case.
In the published letter dated April 16, 2026, the author also alleged that a consultant anaesthesiologist administered medication despite concerns raised by another doctor, a decision she believes contributed to her son’s death. She accused the hospital of attempting to conceal responsibility and avoid accountability.
She further alleged that a senior figure linked to the hospital’s ownership discouraged her family from pursuing legal action, warning that court proceedings could damage her reputation.
Adichie described the message as “manipulative and implicitly threatening,” stressing that grieving parents deserve truth rather than intimidation.
The hospital, however, has denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that all procedures met international medical standards. It stated that the child arrived in a critical condition and that its staff acted appropriately given the circumstances.

Despite the dispute, an inquest into the Chimamanda Adichie son’s death is reportedly ongoing, with some medical staff said to be suspended pending investigation.
Euracare has expressed condolences to the family while continuing to defend its actions as lawful and medically sound.
Adichie concluded by thanking supporters worldwide for their messages of sympathy, noting that the grief of losing her child remains profound as she continues to seek answers through legal and public channels.
