The Independent National Electoral Commission has officially commenced the INEC 2026 recruitment exercise, opening its employment portal to qualified Nigerians interested in joining the commission in various entry-level positions.
According to information released by the electoral body, the online application portal became accessible on Monday, July 20, and will remain open until Monday, July 27.
The recruitment exercise is intended to strengthen the commission’s workforce in key areas, including electoral administration, voter registration, election logistics and data management.
INEC stated that applications are completely free and advised prospective candidates to avoid submitting false information or forged documents.
The commission warned that any applicant found guilty of providing inaccurate details would be disqualified and could face legal consequences.
Available positions and eligibility requirements
The recruitment covers vacancies across Grade Levels 07, 08, 09, 10 and 12 under three major categories.
For the Professional Cadre, available positions include Accountant, Clinical Officer, Lawyer, ICT Officer, Engineer and Quantity Surveyor.
Applicants are expected to possess a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline from a recognised institution. Some roles may also require a master’s degree.
Candidates applying for these positions must present relevant professional certifications where applicable, including qualifications from bodies such as the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) or Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN).
The commission also requires applicants in the professional category to have at least two years of post-qualification experience, an NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, and demonstrate strong analytical, communication, ICT and problem-solving skills.
For the Administrative Officer II position, also known as Registration Area Officer on Grade Level 08, candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree, Higher National Diploma or an equivalent qualification in the Social Sciences, Humanities or Sciences.
Applicants must also provide an NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate and demonstrate competence in data management, record keeping and the use of Microsoft Office applications.
Those interested in the Executive Officer position, also known as Registration Officer on Grade Level 07, are required to possess a National Certificate in Education or an equivalent qualification.
The commission said applicants should have knowledge of computer operations, data handling, communication and organisational skills.
How to apply for the INEC 2026 recruitment
Interested candidates are required to visit the official recruitment portal, create an applicant account using their personal details, email address and National Identification Number, then verify their email before proceeding with the application.
Applicants are expected to choose their preferred cadre and upload all required documents, including a recent passport photograph, birth certificate or declaration of age, O’Level certificate, degree, HND, ND or NCE certificate, local government identification certificate and NYSC certificate where applicable.
INEC noted that once a vacancy has been selected, it cannot be changed after submission.

In addition to the educational requirements, applicants must not be above 35 years of age, must be physically and mentally fit, possess a valid certificate of state of origin signed by the chairman or secretary of their local government, have no criminal conviction and be willing to work in any part of Nigeria.
The commission also emphasised that successful applicants are expected to demonstrate integrity, discipline and commitment to public service throughout their careers.
Only candidates shortlisted after the application process will be contacted for the next stage of the recruitment exercise.
