The committee is expected to submit recommendations within 30 days as the government considers further salary adjustments and welfare packages.
The governor made the announcement during an interactive meeting with primary school teachers, education secretaries, local government chairmen, and other stakeholders at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.
According to Idris, the committee will examine concerns surrounding primary school teachers’ salaries and recommend practical solutions that will enhance the welfare of educators across the state.
“I am going to inaugurate a committee that will look into the salary scale of primary school teachers across the state. The committee will be given 30 days to submit its report, and we will carefully consider its recommendations,” the governor said.
The governor assured teachers that their concerns would receive immediate attention, emphasizing that his administration remains focused on fairness and transparency in implementing the minimum wage.
Describing teaching as his lifelong profession, Idris noted that he remains closely connected to the challenges facing educators and would not permit any action that undermines their welfare.
“This government belongs to you because I am one of you. I am still a teacher, and it was your support and votes that brought me to this position. I will not allow anyone to cheat you,” he stated.
The governor also urged teachers to remain united and avoid being influenced by individuals seeking to discredit the achievements of his administration.
“I urge you not to allow anyone to distract you from the progress and achievements recorded so far. Let us continue to work together for the development of our state,” he added.

During the meeting, Idris requested updates from local government chairmen regarding the implementation of salary adjustments for teachers in their councils. While the chairmen confirmed that salary increases had commenced, they acknowledged that the process was still ongoing in some areas.
Beyond reviewing primary school teachers’ salaries, the governor revealed plans to introduce several welfare programmes aimed at improving the living conditions of teachers. These initiatives include vehicle loans, motorcycle loans, and housing loans.
“We are also working on programmes that will provide teachers with car loans, motorcycle loans and housing loans so that they can enjoy a greater sense of belonging and improve their living conditions,” he said.
The governor stressed that quality basic education remains essential to the future development of Kebbi State, urging teachers to remain dedicated to their responsibilities while the government continues to support the sector.
In a related development, Governor Idris distributed 225 motorcycles to councillors from the 21 local government areas of the state as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots governance and improve service delivery.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony held at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, the governor said the motorcycles would assist councillors in carrying out their duties more effectively, particularly in remote communities where transportation remains a challenge.
“This gesture is part of our administration’s commitment to promoting good governance and ensuring that elected representatives at the grassroots have the necessary support to discharge their responsibilities effectively,” he said.
He added that the initiative reflects the government’s determination to improve accountability, efficiency, and democratic governance at the local level.
The latest move to review primary school teachers’ salaries and expand welfare programmes is expected to boost morale among educators while reinforcing the state government’s broader commitment to strengthening the education sector and public service delivery.
