Nwosu alleges DSS operatives accused him of inciting Nigerians against the Federal Government.
The activist and social commentator made the remarks in a video shared on social media shortly after regaining his freedom. In the video, Nwosu expressed concerns that remaining outspoken on governance, insecurity, and civic responsibility could result in another arrest.
According to him, silence is the only condition that would guarantee his freedom, a choice he says he is unwilling to make.
“I might likely come back. The only thing that will make me remain a free man is to close my mouth and watch my people suffer. I can’t do that,” Nwosu said.
His comments have generated fresh reactions online, with many Nigerians debating the boundaries of free speech and the role of security agencies in addressing criticism directed at government institutions.
Livinus Nwosu Defends His “Renew Mind” Campaign
Nwosu explained that his “Renew Mind” campaign is focused on educating citizens about governance, civic responsibility, and voter participation. The initiative gained wider public attention after videos surfaced showing him encouraging Nigerians to participate actively in elections and avoid selling their votes.
The campaign has particularly resonated with young Nigerians who have followed his messages on political awareness and citizen engagement.
The activist maintained that his activities are aimed at promoting informed citizenship rather than provoking unrest.
Allegations Against Security Operatives
Speaking about his detention, Livinus Nwosu alleged that security officials accused him of using his videos to incite members of the public against the Federal Government.
He, however, rejected the accusation, arguing that discussing national challenges and expressing opinions about governance should not be considered a criminal offence.
“The only thing that will keep me outside is to close my mouth. That will not happen,” he declared.
Nwosu further alleged that his detention and interrogation were designed to discourage him from continuing his advocacy work. He also claimed that he had previously noticed suspicious surveillance and monitoring activities around him while living in Bayelsa State.
According to him, concerns over his safety eventually prompted him to temporarily leave the state.
Calls for Due Process
The activist urged security agencies to adopt official procedures when inviting citizens for questioning. He stated that he would willingly respond to lawful invitations from authorities if contacted through proper channels.
Rather than making arrests without prior notice, Nwosu said security agencies should ensure transparency and respect for due process.
He also encouraged Nigerians to focus on the broader issues he raises, including insecurity, governance challenges, and civic participation, rather than concentrating solely on his personal experiences.

Growing Debate on Freedom of Expression
The case has reignited public discussions about freedom of expression, civic activism, and the relationship between government critics and security agencies in Nigeria.
Several social media users and public commentators have continued to express interest in the circumstances surrounding Nwosu’s detention, especially after concerns were earlier raised about his whereabouts following his arrest.
As of the time of reporting, the DSS had not publicly responded to the specific allegations made by Livinus Nwosu in his post-release video. Claims regarding threats, coercion, and physical mistreatment have also not been independently verified.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his situation, Nwosu remains firm in his position, insisting that he will continue speaking on issues affecting Nigerians and pursuing the objectives of his civic awareness campaign.
