Multichoice And Canal+ have announced the launch of two new Novelas+ channels in English and Portuguese, giving DStv and GOtv subscribers in Nigeria access to a broader collection of internationally popular telenovelas.
The new channels will officially begin broadcasting on July 1, offering viewers a dedicated destination for drama series from Latin America, the United States, Portugal, and Turkey.
The launch builds on the success of Novelas TV, which is being rebranded as NOVELAS+ and remains one of the most-watched television channels across French-speaking Africa.
The expansion reflects the growing popularity of telenovelas among African audiences, particularly in Nigeria, where the genre continues to attract loyal viewers with compelling storylines centred on romance, family, betrayal, ambition, and revenge.
Speaking on the launch, Atinuke Ngozi Babatunde, Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice Nigeria, said Nigerian audiences have consistently embraced emotionally driven television dramas.
“Nigerian audiences have long had a strong affinity for emotionally rich telenovelas. We are delighted to bring all the compelling flavours of these global series to viewers, carefully curated and localized for our Nigerian audiences,” she said.
The channels will feature four different television series every weekday, from Monday to Friday, with fresh episodes airing daily.
Under the theme “Feel the beat of love,” viewers can expect stories packed with romance, passion, rivalry, family conflict, and unexpected twists.
Among the major titles arriving on the English-language Novelas+ channel is Avenida Brasil, the acclaimed Brazilian drama starring Débora Falabella as a woman seeking justice after being abandoned during childhood. The series also features Adriana Esteves in one of television’s most memorable villain roles.
Subscribers will also enjoy the Turkish romantic comedy Be My Sunshine, featuring Ayça Ayşin Turan and Alp Navruz. The series follows a light-hearted summer romance that has gained popularity among international audiences.
Another headline production is the 2025 remake of Doménica Montero, starring Mexican actress Angelique Boyer in the lead role.
Fans of Turkish television will also be able to watch Sin and Roses, which tells the story of a successful businessman whose seemingly perfect life unravels after shocking secrets about his wife come to light.
