Man City Reject £55m Barcelona Bid for Rodri as Transfer Battle Continues
Manchester City have rejected Barcelona’s latest £55 million bid for Rodri, despite the Spanish giants continuing their efforts to sign the midfielder this summer.
Barcelona had already seen an earlier offer of around £40 million rejected by City before returning with an improved proposal.
However, the latest bid has also been turned down, with Manchester City reportedly valuing the 30-year-old midfielder at more than £60 million.
Barcelona refuse to give up on Rodri
Despite City’s decision, Barcelona remain interested in Rodri and are considering their next move as negotiations continue.
The Spain international has entered the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium, increasing speculation about his future.
Manchester City would prefer to keep Rodri and are reportedly keen to agree a new contract with the midfielder.
According to Sky Sports, City do not intend to force Rodri out of the club but would not prevent him from leaving if he formally requests a transfer.
Man City demand higher fee
The major stumbling block in the negotiations is the difference between Barcelona and Manchester City’s valuations of Rodri.
City are reportedly seeking an initial guaranteed payment of between €70 million and €80 million before agreeing to his departure.
Barcelona, meanwhile, are restricted by La Liga’s financial regulations and can currently put together a package worth around €65 million.
A significant portion of Barcelona’s proposal would reportedly come through add-ons, bonuses and other conditional payments rather than an immediate guaranteed transfer fee.
That difference has so far prevented the two clubs from reaching an agreement.

Rodri’s future remains uncertain
Rodri’s contract situation has made the midfielder one of the key names to watch during the current transfer window.
Manchester City are reluctant to lose the former Ballon d’Or winner and would rather secure his long-term future at the Etihad.
However, Barcelona’s continued interest could put further pressure on City if the player decides that he wants a move to Spain.
The situation could also force Manchester City to prepare for the possibility of losing another key midfielder.
Man City consider midfield replacements
While negotiations over Rodri’s future continue, Manchester City are also exploring potential replacements.
The club are reportedly monitoring Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez and Lille youngster Ayyoub Bouaddi as possible options.
For now, however, City’s priority appears to be keeping Rodri rather than preparing for his departure.
Barcelona’s rejection of their £55 million offer means the Spanish club must now decide whether to increase their proposal or explore alternative targets.
With Rodri entering the final year of his contract, the coming weeks could prove crucial in determining whether he remains at Manchester City or makes a return to Spain.
