Mohbad’s Family Demands Identity of US Laboratory for Son Liam’s DNA Test
The family of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has called for the identity of a United States laboratory expected to conduct a DNA test to establish the paternity of his son, Liam.
The family wants the full details of the laboratory disclosed before the examination proceeds. It has also requested a postponement of the test, citing concerns about transparency, sample handling and compliance with a court order.
The family head, Samuel Aloba, made the position known in a statement released on Thursday, October 29, 2026.
Mohbad’s Family Questions DNA Testing Arrangements
The DNA examination is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, at Mainland General Hospital/IDH, Yaba, Lagos.
However, the family has raised concerns over reports that samples would be collected in Lagos and sent to a laboratory in the United States for analysis.
According to the statement, a court order issued on May 5, 2026, designated the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre for the examination.
The family wants clarification on whether the Lagos centre will conduct the actual DNA analysis or simply collect and send the samples abroad.
It argued that the distinction must be addressed before the test takes place to ensure that the process follows the court’s directive.
The family also said any decision to use a foreign laboratory should be properly explained and, where necessary, referred to the court for clarification.
Family Requests Details of US DNA Laboratory
As part of its demands, the family wants the full name and address of the proposed US laboratory.
It has also requested evidence of the laboratory’s accreditation and technical competence, alongside details of the testing procedure.
Other information requested includes how the samples will be collected, labelled, preserved, transported and analysed.
The family further wants a system that can confirm that the samples collected in Lagos are the same ones received and examined by the overseas laboratory.
It said these measures would help ensure transparency and allow all parties to independently verify the process.
Concerns Over DNA Sample Handling
The family also expressed concern about possible interference, mishandling or manipulation of the samples if adequate safeguards are not put in place.
However, it clarified that it was not claiming that the proposed DNA test had already been compromised or that any manipulation had been established.
According to the statement, the family wants the entire process documented, from sample collection to the release of the final laboratory report.
It maintained that the result must be scientifically reliable and open to independent verification.
Family Raises Questions About Earlier Post-Mortem Samples
The family also linked its concerns to questions about the handling of biological samples during the post-mortem examination conducted following Mohbad’s death.
It questioned the role of the pathologist involved in collecting samples during the coroner’s inquest.
The family further claimed that information from its enquiries suggested that the laboratory to which samples from the earlier process were reportedly sent had not received them or any specimen registered in the name of Ilerioluwa Promise Aloba.
However, the family stressed that this was its account of the matter and required further clarification. It acknowledged that the claim was not a court finding or independently established proof of wrongdoing by any person or institution.
Mohbad’s Family Calls for DNA Test to Be Postponed
Despite its concerns, the family said it supports a credible DNA examination that can resolve questions surrounding Liam’s paternity.
It insisted, however, that the identity of the testing laboratory and the chain of custody of the samples must be established before the exercise proceeds.

The family has therefore requested that the October 31 examination be postponed until the outstanding issues are addressed.
It also wants all parties and their legal representatives to receive adequate notice, while seeking further court directions where necessary.
The family said its position is not intended to frustrate the judicial process or prevent a scientifically valid test. Rather, it wants the examination to follow accepted forensic procedures and produce a result that can withstand independent scrutiny.
It added that establishing the truth in a matter as sensitive as Mohbad’s paternity requires transparency, accountability and proper documentation at every stage of the process.
