Atiku Rules Out 2031 Presidential Bid, Says 2027 Will Be His Last
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the 2027 presidential election will be his final attempt to become Nigeria’s president.
Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the declaration during a Hausa-language interview on Wednesday.
He was responding to a question about whether he would seek another presidential nomination in 2031 if he failed to win the 2027 election.
“No, I have said it before, right from this election, I will not contest again,” Atiku said.
The declaration effectively rules out another presidential bid by the former vice president after the 2027 election.
Atiku urges Nigerians to vote in 2027
The ADC presidential candidate also urged Nigerians with Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to participate actively in the 2027 general election. He described voting as an important way for citizens to influence the direction of the country.
Atiku encouraged voters not to leave their polling units immediately after casting their ballots.

He urged them to remain at the polling stations and monitor the counting process.
“First of all, I appeal to those who have voter cards, for their own sake, their families, and their future, to go out and vote. That is the solution to the problems they are facing,” he said.
The former vice president added that voters should stay, escort and ensure that their ballots are properly counted.
Atiku dismisses concerns over his fitness
Atiku also rejected concerns about his ability to handle the demands of the presidency. He maintained that he remains physically fit and capable of governing Nigeria.
“No doctor has declared that I am unfit in terms of health. I know my body, I know I am healthy, and I do not have a single defect,” he said.
Atiku has contested Nigeria’s presidency several times. His latest declaration means he intends to make the 2027 election his final presidential contest, regardless of the outcome.
