Nigerian music superstar Burna Boy has reached another historic achievement after being recognized as Africa’s best-selling artist of all time, following the release of new sales data by global music analytics platform Chartmasters.
According to the data aggregator, the Grammy Award-winning singer has recorded 14.46 million equivalent album sales, placing him ahead of every other African musician in commercial album performance.
The achievement reflects the combined success of his album sales and billions of streams across major digital music platforms.
The latest recognition adds to Burna Boy’s growing list of career accomplishments as he continues to expand the global reach of Afrobeats and African music.
Burna Boy’s Global Success Continues to Grow
Born in Port Harcourt, Burna Boy has steadily built an international reputation since launching his music career in 2012.
However, his global breakthrough came in 2018 with the release of his hit single “Ye” and the Outside album, which introduced his Afro-fusion sound to a wider international audience.
Since then, he has released five studio albums that have delivered both commercial success and critical acclaim.
His 2019 project African Giant has surpassed 1.2 billion Spotify streams, while his 2022 album Love, Damini has crossed 1.5 billion streams, making both projects among the most-streamed African albums on the platform.
The impressive streaming numbers have played a major role in helping Burna Boy secure his position as Africa’s best-selling artist, with equivalent album sales continuing to rise as listeners across the world engage with his music.
Beyond streaming platforms, Burna Boy has maintained strong commercial momentum through sold-out concerts and international performances, further strengthening his influence in the global music industry.
Record-Breaking Tours and FIFA World Cup Performance
Burna Boy’s achievements extend far beyond album sales. He is widely regarded as Africa’s most successful touring artist, having broken several attendance and revenue records.
Over the years, he has become the first African artist to headline and sell out iconic venues including London’s London Stadium, New York’s Madison Square Garden, and France’s Stade de France.
His tours have also generated some of the highest concert revenues ever recorded by an African musician, with record-breaking performances in Canada and Oceania.
His international profile received another boost during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he became the first African artist to perform at both the tournament’s opening ceremony and halftime show.
During the event, jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Burna Boy shared the stage with Colombian singer Shakira to perform “Dai Dai,” the tournament’s official anthem.
