Davido Reveals Past Struggles, Says Rich Friends in Ikoyi Are Sometimes Broke
Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has opened up about his past financial struggles.
The singer made the revelation while discussing wealth and appearances during an interview on the digital talk show Uncut.
Davido said his experience has taught him that an affluent appearance does not always reflect someone’s actual financial situation.
“I was broke. I got friends with rich parents that are broke. I’m telling you,” Davido said.

He also spoke about some wealthy friends who live in expensive areas such as Ikoyi, Lagos.
“I have rich friends that live in Ikoyi and they live in mansions and they have police escort, but they are… they don’t got no money. Facts,” he added.
Davido’s comments highlight the difference between family wealth, social status and personal financial independence.
According to the singer, living in a mansion, having security escorts or coming from a wealthy family does not necessarily mean an individual has substantial personal wealth.
His remarks have sparked conversations online about wealth, appearances and the financial realities behind luxurious lifestyles.
