Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Open to Manchester United Return Amid Carrick Pressure
Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has expressed his willingness to return to Old Trafford if the club offers him another opportunity, as pressure continues to mount on current head coach Michael Carrick.
Manchester United’s difficult Premier League campaign has intensified scrutiny of Carrick following their 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday. The result left the Red Devils in 17th place, level on goal difference with 18th-placed Crystal Palace and just two points above bottom-placed Sunderland.
Solskjaer, who previously managed Manchester United, said he would welcome another chance to take charge of the club. However, he stressed that he was not seeking to replace Carrick, whom he considers a friend and believes has the qualities needed to lead the team.
Solskjaer Says He Has Unfinished Business at Old Trafford
Speaking to Norwegian broadcaster TV2, the former United manager admitted that returning to the club would be meaningful to him.
He acknowledged that going back to a previous role does not always produce the same results, but said he still felt he had something unresolved at Manchester United.
Solskjaer also recalled being considered for an interim managerial position after Ruben Amorim was dismissed in January. Both he and Carrick, who had previously served on his coaching staff, were interviewed before the club selected Carrick.
The Norwegian said he had expected any interim appointment to last only until the summer and believed it was time for someone else to take the opportunity.

He nevertheless made it clear that he would not turn down a short-term return if the club approached him in the future.
Solskjaer explained that he had spent 18 to 19 years at Manchester United, describing the club as part of his family.
Solskjaer Backs Carrick to Turn United’s Season Around
Despite his willingness to return, Solskjaer insisted that he was not thinking about taking Carrick’s job.
He said he would be happy to see his former colleague remain in charge for many years and would only consider helping the club if asked after Carrick eventually decided to leave.
The former manager also expressed confidence in Carrick’s ability to improve Manchester United’s fortunes.
According to Solskjaer, Carrick understands the club, its supporters and what is required to move the team forward.
His comments come at a difficult period for Manchester United, whose poor league position has increased pressure on the coaching staff as the season continues.
