Social media has been buzzing after Anita Joseph found herself at the centre of controversy over an AI-edited image that allegedly used another person’s photograph without permission.
The Nollywood actress responded after influencer Caramel accused her of replacing the original face in a photograph with her own before sharing it on Instagram.

The accusation surfaced when Caramel returned to Instagram after taking a break from the platform. According to the influencer, she was surprised to discover that one of her photos had allegedly been altered and posted by the actress.
Caramel Accuses Anita Joseph of Using Her Photo
Expressing her disappointment, Caramel claimed that she had no relationship with Anita Joseph and questioned why her image had been used.
“You don’t even follow me on any socials, we don’t know each other, Anita, you removed my head from my picture and inserted your head in it and POSTED IT PUBLICLY?” she wrote.

To support her claim, the influencer shared what she described as the original version of the photograph and added the caption, “The actual photo btw… why do people embarrass themselves like this?”
The post quickly attracted widespread attention, with many social media users debating whether the image was intentionally copied or the result of AI-generated editing.

Rather than deny the allegation, Anita Joseph admitted that the image had been created by a member of her creative team, whom she referred to as her “AI boy.”
Responding publicly, the actress wrote, “Chai, my AI boy said it was an inspiration from AI; this guy wan implicate me, chim. Sorry baby, I can’t even be caught up in this kind of mess. I’m so sorry, but you look great.”

According to Anita Joseph, the image was generated using artificial intelligence, with her face and hairstyle inserted into the final result without her knowing that another person’s original photograph had been used.
AI Image Controversy Sparks Fresh Debate
Following her apology, reactions online were divided. Some users believed the actress may not have been aware of the image’s origin and accepted her explanation that the mistake came from someone on her creative team.
Others, however, sided with Caramel, arguing that public figures should verify content before posting it on their social media accounts.
Caramel also rejected the explanation. After seeing positive comments praising the image on Anita Joseph’s page, she returned to the conversation with a brief but pointed response, writing, “SHE STOLE IT.”
The incident has also renewed discussions about the growing use of artificial intelligence in creating online content.

As AI editing tools become easier to access, concerns about copyright, digital identity and the unauthorised use of photographs continue to increase.
Many observers believe the situation highlights the need for creators, brands and celebrities to carefully verify AI-generated content before sharing it publicly to avoid disputes over ownership and originality.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Anita Joseph nor Caramel has released any additional statement regarding the matter.
