Brad Pitt Loses Court Bid Over Private Messages in Winery Dispute

Brad Pitt has suffered a setback in his legal fight with former wife Angelina Jolie over access to private communications tied to their shared French winery. The dispute centers on the Château Miraval estate, valued at about 164 million dollars, which the former couple once owned together.
On Monday, May 4, a Los Angeles court ruled against Pitt’s request to obtain certain private messages linked to the case. The judge sided with Jolie and reinforced protections around confidential legal communications.
The court said Pitt did not provide enough evidence to justify access to the materials. As a result, the ruling marked a legal win for Jolie in a case that continues to draw public attention.
Court Rules in Angelina Jolie’s Favor Over Private Messages
A Los Angeles judge rejected Brad Pitt’s request to access Angelina Jolie’s private messages. Judge Cindy Pánuco ruled that Jolie does not need to release the communications because the attorney-client privilege protects them. She explained that Pitt failed to meet the legal standard required to force disclosure of the documents.
Furthermore, the judge noted that Pitt did not present strong evidence to support his request. She added that while additional discovery could reveal more information, the current case record did not justify access to the private materials. Therefore, the court upheld earlier appellate findings that supported Jolie’s position.
Jolie’s legal team welcomed the decision. Her attorney, Paul Murphy, called the ruling an important victory for his client. He argued that Pitt’s attempt to obtain the messages crossed clear legal boundaries. He also said the court correctly protected privileged communication between Jolie and her legal advisers.
In addition, Murphy stated that both the trial court and the appellate court had now rejected efforts to access the protected records. This reinforced Jolie’s position that her private legal communications must remain confidential under the law.
Winery Dispute at the Center of Ongoing Conflict
The legal battle between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie stems from their ownership of Château Miraval, a winery in southern France. The estate once served as a shared investment during their marriage. However, tensions rose after Jolie sold her stake in the property.
Pitt argues that the sale violated an earlier agreement that required both parties to approve any transfer of ownership. Jolie’s decision triggered a broader legal dispute between the former couple.
Since then, the case has expanded beyond ownership concerns and now includes financial claims and disagreements over business control.
Both sides continue to present opposing arguments in court filings. Pitt maintains that Jolie breached their agreement. Meanwhile, Jolie insists she acted within her legal rights when she sold her share. As a result, the dispute has become a long-running commercial and legal conflict tied to the winery.
Ongoing Legal Tensions Continue
Despite the recent ruling, Brad Pitt’s legal team continues to pursue parts of the case. Sources close to the actor say the matter remains active and open to further review. They claim Jolie still holds several documents under attorney client privilege that Pitt’s side may challenge in future proceedings.
In addition, reports suggest the judge has allowed limited areas of the case to be revisited if new evidence emerges. This means both parties may return to court with further arguments as the legal process continues.
The Château Miraval dispute remains one of the most closely watched post-divorce business battles in Hollywood. Both Pitt and Jolie continue to defend their positions, and neither side has reached a resolution.
For now, the latest court ruling strengthens Jolie’s legal standing. However, the case continues, and further hearings may still shape the outcome of the long-running dispute.
