Popular TikTok personality Peller has become the centre of attention on social media after a light-hearted exchange during his court wedding ceremony.
The viral moment happened when a marriage registrar explained the legal responsibilities attached to marriages conducted under Nigeria’s Marriage Act.
As part of the ceremony, the registrar informed the couple that entering another marriage while legally married amounts to bigamy, an offence that carries a prison sentence.
The official explained that anyone found guilty of the offence could face a minimum of five years’ imprisonment without the option of paying a fine.
After giving the warning, the registrar jokingly asked whether the couple wanted to proceed with the ceremony or take time to reconsider.
Peller Questions How Prison Became Part of Marriage
Clearly surprised by the warning, Peller interrupted the proceedings to seek clarification.
“Wait, wait… I get question. For marriage?” he asked after hearing the registrar mention the prison sentence.
When the registrar confirmed that the punishment applied to anyone who violated the marriage law by committing bigamy, Peller responded with a humorous remark that immediately made everyone in attendance laugh.
“For marriage? We will not break it, but ah, I don’t know how prison enter this love… We are good,” he said.
