Canada Lists 8 Documents That Could Get You Banned for 5 Years
Canada has warned immigration and visa applicants against submitting fake documents or providing false information during the application process.
The Canadian government said such actions can have serious consequences, including refusal of an application and a ban from entering the country for at least five years.
The warning was issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on its official X account on Wednesday, August 19, as the department renewed its warning about immigration document fraud.
Canada warns against fake immigration documents
According to IRCC, applicants must provide genuine documents and accurate information when applying for immigration or other Canadian entry documents.
The department said submitting falsified or altered documents can amount to misrepresentation.
Applicants are also responsible for checking the accuracy of information provided in their applications, even when an immigration consultant or other representative handles the process.
IRCC said applicants cannot avoid responsibility by claiming that a representative prepared or submitted the application for them.
The department identified several important documents that applicants must not falsify or alter.
8 documents that can cause serious immigration problems
The documents include:
- Passports and other travel documents
- Canadian or foreign visas
- Diplomas and academic degrees
- Apprenticeship and trade certificates
- Birth certificates
- Marriage certificates
- Divorce, annulment or separation documents
- Death certificates
- Police certificates
Any attempt to submit fraudulent versions of these documents can raise concerns about the applicant’s credibility and the accuracy of the entire application.
Applicants remain responsible for their applications
IRCC stressed that applicants remain responsible for everything contained in their immigration applications.
This applies even when a consultant, lawyer or other representative completes the forms or submits documents on their behalf.

Applicants are therefore advised to review their applications carefully before submission.
They should also ensure that personal information, employment history, educational qualifications, family details and supporting documents are accurate and genuine.
False information can lead to application refusal
Submitting false documents or misleading information can result in an application being refused.
IRCC also warned that applicants could face a ban from entering Canada for at least five years. The consequences can therefore extend beyond the immediate refusal of a visa or immigration application.
Canada has continued to emphasise the importance of honesty throughout its immigration process. Applicants are expected to provide truthful information and authentic supporting documents at every stage.
Those using immigration representatives should also independently verify the information being submitted in their names.
The warning serves as a reminder that applicants, rather than their representatives, ultimately remain responsible for the contents of their applications.
