2027: Kwankwaso Explains Why He Chose to Work With Peter Obi
Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has explained his decision to partner with former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Kwankwaso said the partnership was driven by the need to offer Nigerians competent, accountable and people-focused leadership.
In a message marking the start of the 2027 presidential campaign, he said Nigeria was facing serious challenges that required a different approach to governance.
He listed rising living costs, unemployment, insecurity and inadequate investment in key sectors among the major concerns confronting Nigerians.
Kwankwaso highlights Nigeria’s challenges
According to Kwankwaso, many Nigerians, particularly young people, are struggling to find decent employment and build sustainable livelihoods.
He also noted that businesses are dealing with high operating costs and an uncertain economic environment.
On security, the former governor said terrorism, banditry and kidnapping continue to threaten communities across the country.
He stressed the need to create an environment where farmers can safely return to their farms and children can attend school without fear.
“Our farmers need security to return to their farms, our children need safe schools, and every Nigerian deserves to live without fear,” he said.
Kwankwaso, however, maintained that Nigeria has the human and material resources needed to become a prosperous and secure nation.
He argued that the country needs leadership driven by competence, courage and commitment rather than personal interests.
Why Kwankwaso chose to work with Obi
Explaining his decision to partner with Obi, Kwankwaso said their political alliance was based on a shared desire to put Nigeria’s interests first.
“This is why I have chosen to work with His Excellency, Peter Obi, on the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket,” he said.
He added that the partnership was not founded on regional, religious or personal considerations.
“Our partnership is not about region, religion or personal ambition. It is about Nigeria,” Kwankwaso said.
The former Kano governor said the alliance was built around the belief that government should serve citizens and create opportunities for people to improve their lives.
He said the partners envision a country where hard work is rewarded, young Nigerians can build successful futures at home and citizens have a fair opportunity to prosper.
Kwankwaso calls for support ahead of 2027
Kwankwaso also appealed to Nigerians across different groups to join the political movement.
He specifically called on young people, women, workers, farmers, entrepreneurs and professionals to participate in the campaign.
The former governor urged Nigerians to move away from divisive politics and concentrate on issues that directly affect their daily lives. He also asked voters to demand accountability, competence and measurable results from politicians seeking public office.
According to him, the 2027 presidential election provides Nigerians with an opportunity to choose a different direction for the country.

Kwankwaso urged Nigerians to support the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket and candidates of the NDC while calling on supporters to maintain peace throughout the campaign.
“Let us campaign peacefully, responsibly and with the national interest at heart,” he said.
He expressed optimism about the country’s future, concluding that Nigerians could work together to build a stronger nation.
