The death of UNIJOS model, Ibrahim Mbaya has continued to spark outrage across Nigeria following the emergence of a heartbreaking photo said to capture the final moments of his alleged ordeal before he died.
Ibrahim Mbaya, popularly known as “Ibee,” was a 25-year-old graduate of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) and a well-known model.
Reports of his death first surfaced after he was allegedly attacked by a group of youths over claims that he had stolen an iPhone 12.
According to the Plateau State Police Command, Mbaya was rushed to the Jos University Teaching Hospital on July 26 in an unconscious state after the alleged assault. Medical personnel later confirmed that he was dead on arrival.
Police said the deceased had been accused of stealing an iPhone 12. Witnesses, however, claimed he was beaten for several hours in an attempt to force him into confessing to the alleged theft.
Heartbreaking Photo Raises More Questions
A disturbing image shared by Instagram blog @the_abujagist has added another layer to the tragic incident. The photo allegedly shows Ibrahim Mbaya suspended on a washing line while enduring severe torture before his death.
According to the account, UNIJOS model, Ibrahim Mbaya was tortured for hours before he eventually died, while the iPhone 12 at the centre of the accusation was later found.
The image, which has since circulated widely on social media, reportedly shows his hands tied to his legs with a red rope as a young man stands nearby.
The disturbing nature of the photo has triggered emotional reactions from many Nigerians, with several users demanding that everyone connected to the incident be brought to justice.
Police Arrest Four Suspects as Calls for Justice Grow
The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with the incident. Authorities also disclosed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals believed to have participated in the alleged assault.
The death has attracted condemnation from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the University of Jos Alumni Association, and many Nigerians on social media.
