Swayvee Explains the Inspiration Behind Debut EP ‘PersWaysion’
Fast-rising Nigerian singer Swayvee has opened up about the creative process, personal experiences and artistic vision behind his debut extended play (EP), PersWaysion.
In an interview with Pulse Mix, the singer discussed the project’s development, the meaning behind its title and the stories that inspired its eight tracks.
Released on August 14, 2026, PersWaysion features eight tracks with a total runtime of approximately 20 minutes. The project explores romance, intimacy and the desire for a love that feels difficult to attain.
According to Swayvee, the EP had been in development for years, although the songs eventually included on the project were recorded more recently. He explained that personal growth, setbacks and experience helped him reach the point where he felt ready to release the body of work.
Swayvee Explains the Meaning Behind ‘PersWaysion’
The singer described PersWaysion as his way of introducing listeners to the sound he wants to create rather than simply giving audiences what they expect.
He explained that the title represents an attempt to persuade fans to embrace his musical direction and artistic choices.
Swayvee said the central theme of the project is yearning for a love that appears out of reach. He wanted listeners to experience the emotions that come with wanting someone deeply but struggling to attain the kind of relationship they desire.
The singer also revealed that his music is largely drawn from real-life experiences. He insisted that the stories and emotions expressed in his songs reflect things that have happened to him or people around him.

‘You’re Mine’ and the Story Behind the EP
The opening track, You’re Mine, features Nigerian singer Wizard Chan and introduces the relationship story that runs through the project.
Swayvee explained that the song centres on a complicated romantic situation involving a woman named Anita and another woman he genuinely wants to be with.
He said the lyrics tell the story of someone who has a relationship with one woman but wants another, while trying to convince his love interest that she is the person he truly desires.
The singer described the track as a phone conversation with a woman who prefers to keep their relationship private. However, he wants their connection to become public rather than remain a secret.

He also explained how Wizard Chan joined the record. After initially recording two verses himself, he approached several artistes, including Kaestyle and Minz, but did not receive responses. Wizard Chan eventually sent his verse without replying to the original message.
‘Get Lucky’ and ‘Selense’ Continue the Love Story
The EP moves from You’re Mine into Get Lucky, which represents the moment the woman agrees to spend time with him in public.
Swayvee explained that the song celebrates finally getting the opportunity to be with someone he has long desired, beyond phone conversations and secret meetings.
He also revealed that Get Lucky contains an interpolation of the song by Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams.
The story continues with Selense, where the singer tries to convince his love interest that their connection could become something more meaningful than occasional outings and excitement.
He explained that the song reflects his effort to show her that they could make a good couple.
Swayvee Wanted a Balance of Emotion and Danceable Sounds
Speaking about Selense, Intoxica and G Shock, the singer said he wanted the EP to offer more than emotional and romantic songs.
He deliberately incorporated upbeat rhythms and danceable sounds so listeners could enjoy the music while connecting with its themes.
Swayvee said he paid particular attention to the bounce of the production, aiming for a sound that felt distinctive but remained familiar to listeners.
The three tracks were designed to maintain the feel-good atmosphere of the project’s romantic storyline.
G-SHOCK Deal Came After Swayvee Reached Out
The singer also discussed his partnership with G-SHOCK, describing how a simple business move eventually led to a long-term ambassadorial deal.
He revealed that while visiting South Africa, he noticed a newly opened G-SHOCK store and contacted the brand to request permission to shoot a video at the location.
However, the conversation developed into something bigger, with the company expressing interest in a long-term partnership.
According to Swayvee, the opportunity came after he took the initiative to reach out to the brand himself.
South Africa Remains an Important Market for Swayvee
The singer also spoke about his growing relationship with South Africa, where he said he has received considerable support from music fans.
He revealed that the country is his second-largest audience and that he has worked on several collaborations with South African artistes.
These include Us (remixed with Young Stunna), Weh Lavo and Closer (Sondela).
Swayvee said the support he receives whenever he visits South Africa is one of the reasons he continues to return to the country.
‘Jawdropper’ EP Is Swayvee’s Next Project
Looking ahead, the singer confirmed that his next project will be an EP titled Jawdropper.
He described it as an opportunity to reveal another side of his artistry, suggesting that the upcoming release will offer a different creative direction from PersWaysion.
However, he did not confirm a release date, saying the project could arrive either later in 2026 or in 2027.
For now, Swayvee encouraged fans to remain hopeful as he continues preparing the next chapter of his musical journey.
