Popular Nigerian cleric Evangelist Ebuka Obi has become the subject of widespread discussion after a video of him sharing his views on investing in men and women surfaced online.
In the now-viral clip, the preacher argued that people are more likely to receive lasting appreciation when they support men than when they invest in women.
His remarks have generated contrasting opinions, with some social media users agreeing with his perspective while others described it as an unfair generalisation.

Speaking during the sermon captured in the viral video, Evangelist Ebuka Obi claimed that men tend to remember those who stood by them during difficult moments, while women often move on after entering new relationships.
According to him:
“Invest in a fellow man there is possibility that he will remember. But when you invest in a woman, when she will remember you is when she’s in need again.
“Men hardly forget. One day they will remember that this man helped them when they were in secondary school.
“But women, if they meet another relationship, they have moved on. If she even see you in a vehicle, she will do like this (waving).
“When a woman moves, when a woman meets another man, she forgets everything you have done for her. But a fellow man cannot even forget easily.”
The comments quickly spread across several social media platforms, attracting thousands of reactions from Nigerians who debated whether the cleric’s opinion reflected real-life experiences or unfairly grouped all women together.

One user, Ugoo, supported the cleric’s view, writing:
“We might call this generalisation, but this is commonly true. Do something for a man today, it could be a favour or a gift, instantly, the man feels like he is indebted to you. Everything going on in his head is how he can better repay you, but I can’t say the same for women.”
Another commenter, Chinemeluma, suggested the statement should be viewed in the context of romantic relationships.
“I believe he’s coming from the angle of people investing on their girlfriends, female friends and male friends. Because there’s nothing wrong investing on your daughter or sisters.”
However, Eby’s Lady disagreed with the preacher’s position, arguing that gratitude is not determined by gender.
“It’s not true man of God. Investing in a woman it’s not only in a boyfriend and girlfriend relationship. Women don’t forget who invested in their lives no matter where she finds herself period!”
Another user, Mazi Okwuoma, also rejected the claim, stating:
“This isn’t a gender issue, it’s a character issue. There are plenty of ungrateful men who eat your money and act like they don’t know you, and plenty of loyal women. People just need to stop investing in the wrong individuals.”
