Abuja is preparing for a significant addition to its tourism and leisure landscape as Akida Hills moves forward with plans to develop the Jabi Lake Waterfront into a landmark destination for recreation, entertainment, and tourism.
The Abuja-based mixed-use real estate developer has secured a 3.36-hectare site within the broader waterfront district and is set to deliver a phased development designed to attract residents, tourists, and investors.
The project is expected to play a key role in strengthening Abuja’s appeal as a leading lifestyle and tourism hub in Nigeria.
According to the company, the first phase of the development is scheduled for completion in December 2026 and will introduce a range of attractions aimed at creating a vibrant waterfront experience.
First Phase to Feature West Africa’s First Dancing Musical Fountain
A major highlight of the initial phase will be the installation of what Akida Hills describes as West Africa’s first dancing musical fountain.
The attraction will combine synchronized water displays, music, and lighting effects to create an interactive entertainment experience for visitors.
In addition to the fountain, the first phase will include waterfront dining options, leisure facilities, water-based recreational activities, weekly entertainment programmes, and a seasonal lights festival.
The company believes these attractions will help establish the Jabi Lake Waterfront as one of the most visited leisure destinations in the Federal Capital Territory.
Speaking on the development, Founder of Akida Hills, Kayode Bamisile, said:
“Jabi Lake represents one of the most significant opportunities to create a world-class waterfront destination in Africa.
Through this development, we aim to deliver experiences that attract residents, visitors, and tourists year-round while contributing to economic growth, job creation, and Nigeria’s tourism appeal.
Our vision is to establish Jabi as a defining waterfront destination for the continent – one that demonstrates the transformative power of destination-led development and reimagines how people experience a city”.
Project Expected to Boost Tourism and Economic Growth
Beyond entertainment and leisure, the development is expected to contribute to economic activity through job creation, tourism spending, and increased commercial opportunities around the waterfront district.
Akida Hills stated that additional attractions, amenities, and visitor experiences will be introduced in subsequent phases as the project expands.
The company also plans to announce further details regarding commercial partnerships, events, and programming ahead of the December 2026 launch date.
Once completed, the Jabi Lake Waterfront project is expected to become a central destination for recreation, cultural activities, community engagement, and tourism, further enhancing Abuja’s reputation as a modern and attractive city for both residents and visitors.
