The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that First Bank MD Olusegun Alebiosu received a parcel containing two rounds of live ammunition at his residence in Lagos, prompting an ongoing police investigation into the source of the apparent threat.
According to police authorities, the incident occurred on May 7, 2026, when a dispatch rider delivered a sealed envelope addressed to the bank’s managing director. The parcel was reportedly received by security personnel stationed at the residence before it was handed over to Alebiosu.
The envelope was marked as confidential, and nothing appeared unusual until it was opened. Inside, the First Bank MD reportedly found two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, a discovery that immediately triggered security concerns and a formal report to law enforcement authorities.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja, Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai confirmed that detectives had been investigating the matter since it was reported.
“There is a case like that which we are presently investigating, and it happened precisely on the 7th of May this year,” Fatai said.
He explained that the parcel was accepted by a security guard because it was properly addressed to the recipient.
“The MD of First Bank reported that he received a parcel that had been collected on his behalf by a security guard at his residence. Upon opening the parcel, he discovered two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition,” the commissioner stated.
Fatai said the discovery was treated as a serious security matter, leading the command to begin a full-scale investigation.
“The matter raised serious concern, and we immediately commenced investigations,” he added.
The police commissioner disclosed that no arrests have been made so far, but investigators are following several leads to identify those responsible for sending the parcel.
He also acknowledged that the First Bank MD had mentioned individuals he personally suspects may be connected to the incident. However, Fatai stressed that those claims remain allegations until verified through ongoing investigations.

“Even though the MD has mentioned some people who he suspected of being behind the act, that is his suspicion. We are still working on it,” he said.
Authorities say forensic and intelligence-driven investigations are continuing to determine how the envelope was sent, identify the sender, and establish whether the incident was intended as a direct threat.
The Lagos State Police Command assured the public that updates would be provided as investigations progress, describing the case as a significant security concern given the high-profile position of the recipient.
