The family of late Nollywood comic actor John Okafor, widely known as Mr Ibu, is facing serious financial hardship, with Mr Ibu’s widow making an emotional appeal for support to help keep a roof over their heads and ensure their children remain in school.
Speaking during an interview with content creator King Mitchy, the late actor’s wife shared the difficult reality of life since her husband’s death, saying the family has been unable to meet basic living expenses.
According to her, their electricity supply was disconnected about two months ago because they could not settle outstanding bills, forcing the family to look elsewhere to charge their mobile phones.
“We fetch water from the well. Because I have not paid the house rent. And they have even cut my lights for two months now. No lights since. We have been like that. Every night we go to look for a place to charge our phones. And… It’s not easy,” she said.
She explained that the financial difficulties have affected every aspect of their daily lives, making it increasingly challenging to provide basic necessities for her children.

One of Mr Ibu’s daughters became emotional while speaking about her mother’s efforts to keep the family together despite the challenges they continue to face.
“I want to thank God for my mom. She tries everything she can to feed us, to pay our school fees, to make us happy,” she said.
The widow also revealed that the family’s financial situation has placed her children’s education in jeopardy, saying they may no longer be able to attend school because their fees remain unpaid.
“Right now, they can’t go to school again. I can even show you the message the school sent me today,” she said.
King Mitchy, who conducted the interview, said the appeal was intended to seek public support for the family, particularly to help settle outstanding school fees, pay house rent, and reconnect electricity.
