Former Osun State Governor and former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has said he left office after serving for eight years without acquiring a personal house.
The former governor made the statement while speaking in a video shared online, where he addressed members of the public about his time in government.
According to Rauf Aregbesola, he lived with a friend throughout his tenure and did not use his years in office to acquire private property.
Rauf Aregbesola Says He Did Not Acquire Property While in Office
Speaking during the address, Aregbesola maintained that his lifestyle while serving as governor reflected his personal values.
He explained that he stayed on his father’s land in a property owned by a friend instead of building or purchasing a house for himself.
“I’m the first governor in the whole of Nigeria that served for eight years without owning a house. I squatted with my friend for those eight years on my father’s land.
“These politicians, that politicians. Whosoever says I am lying should come and show me the houses I owned during my tenure,” he said.
The former governor insisted that anyone questioning his claim should provide proof that he acquired any house while he was in office.
